Tel Aviv--A gloomy rainy day on Ahad HaAm Street lowered the mood at the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE). This and the downward opening trading on both the Nasdaq Stock Exchange and the Dow Jones Industrial Averages today are showing up in the negative performances of the TASE indices.
Dark skies and heavy rainfall were experienced throughout the day, today, in Israel.
Adding to the gloomy weather atmosphere, the U.S. markets are showing today heavy weakness. This influences Israeli stock weak performances.
The Nasdaq at 11.30 a.m., New York Time, 6.30 p.m. Tel Aviv time, was down 0.53%, at that time's current close of 2038.24. It was dropping steadily from its opening today.
The DJIA was down 0.48%, at that time's current close of 9742.73. It was also dropping steadily from its opening today.
This translated into losses at the close of market trading on the TASE, which stopped stock trading today at 4.30 p.m., Tel Aviv time. Derivatives clearing however ended today at 5.30 p.m., Tel Aviv time. End of security clearing on the TASE was at 6.30 p.m., Tel Aviv time.
Although positive news from the Bank of Israel (BOI) did not brighten spirits on the TASE today.
Today the BOI released that Israeli investment by non-citizens was up in September 2009.
Bonds trading indices were also slightly down at the close of today's TASE markets.
At the close of the Tuesday's markets on the TASE, the General index closed at 847.18, down 1.53%. The TA-25 index closed at 991.90, down 1.40%. The TA-100 index closed at 924.26, down 1.72%. The TA-75 index closed at 709.43, down 2.63%. The Tel-Tech 15 index closed at 217.22, down 0.89%.
The Finance-15 index closed at 1,003.03, down 2.58%. The Estate-15 index closed at 283.71, down 3.83%. The TA-Banks index closed at 1,055.71, down 2.38%. The Tel - Div 20 index closed at 1,157.60, down 1.66%. The Maala index closed at 868.57, down 0.87%. The Mid-Cap 50 index closed at 393.14, down 2.34%. The Mid Cap-120 index closed at 776.32, down 2.33%. The Yeter-Rest of Shares & Convertibles closed at 828.38, down 1.53%.
Turing to the bonds markets on the TASE, at the close of Tuesday's trading the All Bonds index closed at 243.97, down 0.08%. The CPI Linked Government Bonds (Galil) index closed at 248.23, down 0.04%. The Non-Linked Government Bonds index closed at 293.05, down 0.08%. The Non-Linked, Fixed Interest, Gov. Bonds (Shahar) index closed at 321.46, down 0.11%. The Non-Linked , Floating Interest, Gov. Bonds (Gilon) index closed at 251.69, up 0.02%. The Tel-Bond 20 index closed at 245.41, down 0.08%. The Tel-Bond 40 index closed at 232.77, down 0.26%. The Tel-Bond 60 index closed at 239.87, down 0.15%. The CPI-Linked Non-Government Bonds index closed at 238.44, down 0.22%. The Currency-Linked, Non-Government Bonds index closed at 170.03, up 0.51%. The Short Term Treasury Bill index closed at 250.66, with no change from yesterday's, Monday's TASE markets close.
